Since I am a graphic designer, I've always experienced frustrations and doubts. I'm not bad, but not good enought, I like to show all of my skills, but also want to be considered as a specialist, I want my clients to be happy answering the brief, but still doing what pleases me... And the trickier issue I had to faced everyday, is how to keep what defines me as a designer - my personality, my style, or whatever you like to call it - from what I am asked for.
"We really liked your portfolio, but could you put more red, change the font and not be so illustrative?" How not to turn into a neurotic when all you have been chosen for, is all you have been asked to remove? How do you know when to fight and when to give up? Does clients understand how seriously this process is affecting you?
Well, the only way I manage - as best as I can - to preserve myself from this, is to think:
A good designer makes something for someone with a specific goal to achieve.
Otherwise he's an artist...
