Did you ever feel totally empty? Like you run out of ideas, of motivation, of desire. You're looking at the blank page and start to panic? A while ago, I confessed I was in this state of mind. It has been nearly 10 years since I've decided to become a graphic designer, an art director and I had reached a point where I was really tired of my work. Obviously, the fact that I was designer and entrepreneur at the same time, wasn't helping the situation! So I faced with this question: how to become creative again?
1. Think small
Like I said here, you better achieve a small project, than never finish a big one! Try to focus on severals small side projects to keep your creativity running all the time.
2. Force yourself
When you're really empty, you will not get out of this state without push you a little bit. Set aside a time for you to create that can fit with your calendar (one hour a day, the weekend...). It won't happen by itself!
"Never accept defeat, you may not be a success." - Jack E. Addington
3. give yourself the means
Try to figure what blocks you to go on and what will you need to create. You want to make photographs, always keep your camera with you! You want to become a better illustrator, take a drawing class! Once again, it won't happen by itself.
4. stay sociable
Great ideas can come from a dialog or a word pronounced by a friend. It will lead you somewhere or it will push you to collaborate with others to bring this idea alive.
5. just do it
I think you got it: it won't happen by itself!
"Nearly everything you do is of no importance, but it is important that you do it." - Mahatma Gandhi
Well, I won't lie. For me, it has been a hard process. I had to struggled with myself and maybe I will have to do it again and again. But the job was worth it! What about you ? Have you ever felt this way? How did you handle it?
remember, let's rise from the grave and get motivated!
